Woodcutters at work on massive logs, Fuji glimpsed through the valley opening — In the Mountains of Tōtōmi Province. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (public domain).
Katsushika Hokusai. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (public domain).

Deep in Tōtōmi Province, workers and logs compete for grandeur. The bird’s-eye / valley viewpoint turns the scene into a lesson in relative scale.

Bird’s-eye angle down into the valley — bodies and trees calibrate Fuji’s size.

Figures and mountain forms interact; follow how felled timber directs the eye to the peak.

Compare laboring bodies here with the Tama River ferry scene.
