Five-arch Kintai Bridge spanning river and hills in a panoramic view — Kintai Bridge in Suō Province. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (public domain).
Katsushika Hokusai. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (public domain).

From Remarkable Views of Bridges, Hokusai elevates engineering to poetry. The distant viewpoint lets five arches read as rhythm across water, figures, and hills.

Bridge form leads — follow the repeating arch module across the sheet.

Distant framing plus figures and mountain forms situate the span in real terrain.

Compare built geometry here with the natural framing of barrel-hoop Fuji.
