Paul Klee Gallery (Guide)

Paul Klee—color, symbol, and poetic line. Mostly Wikimedia Commons; some works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

日本語

Paul Klee expanded twentieth-century art with color, symbols, and lines that feel almost poetic. At the Bauhaus he systematized color theory while borrowing the freedom of children’s drawing and dreamlike worlds, crossing abstract and figurative on his own terms.

Images come from public-domain works on Wikimedia Commons, the National Gallery of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Open Access), among other museum holdings. The gallery is arranged in three rooms you can walk through in chronological order. After the last room, a small corner—“Where Line Becomes Form”—holds four works from 1934 onward, showing late changes in line without dwelling on biographical weight. Ten key works are also available in a large pan-and-zoom viewer (Japanese UI).
